As part of the Ministry of Health and Prevention ongoing commitment to strengthening the healthcare system and advancing institutional integration, the Ministry announced the transfer of a set of pharmaceutical regulatory services to the Emirates Drug Establishment, as part of a framework aimed at enhancing regulatory integration and avoiding duplication of procedures.

The transfer includes 44 core services fully assigned to the Emirates Drug Establishment, covering the regulation and oversight of medical products. These services include the registration and renewal of medical products and pharmaceutical manufacturers, pricing of medical products, issuance of export certificates, pharmacovigilance services, post-marketing surveillance, and quality and safety reporting.

In addition, 13 services were transferred partially within a framework that distributes roles and responsibilities according to the nature and regulatory requirements of each service.

These services include the licensing, renewal, reactivation, amendment, and cancellation of pharmaceutical facility licences; publication of licensed pharmaceutical facilities lists; issuance and renewal of health advertising licences; handling appeals related to health advertising violations; processing complaints against private health facilities and medical personnel; approvals related to emergency drugs, psychotropic substances, and narcotic drugs; custody handover requests; approval of authorised signatories for narcotic drug custody; and registration requests for narcotic drugs distributed to private health establishments.

this measure is introduced to simplify the customer experience, enhance the efficiency and quality of services, and accelerate service delivery, in line with best practices and in support of the sustainability of the health sector.
