The Saudi Food & Drug Authority (“SFDA”) has issued V 7.0 of the Guideline on Requirements for Advertising and Promotion of Pharmaceutical and Herbal Products.

🔍 What’s new:

The guideline includes updates to the following areas:

  • General Provisions

  • Responsibilities of the Applicant

  • Conditions and requirements for approval of consumer-directed advertising

  • Special conditions for advertising via websites and social media platforms

  • Contract requirements between establishments and social media influencers

  • Submission mechanism

 

📅 Key Points:

  • Advertising approval validity is one year, with the possibility of extension or renewal up to five years while retaining the same license number (consumer-directed advertising).
  • For influencer advertising, SFDA must be notified at least 12 hours prior to publication, and a contract and valid Mawthooq license must be provided.
  • The stated processing timeline is 15 working days, and the fee is SAR 14,000 per registered product per advertising format.
